We aim to make your dog's stay an adventure, so your time away isn't a time of sadness for them. They live with us as our temporary family — and they go home happy.

The only guest

Truly exclusive boarding. We take only your dog — or up to three from the same home — so there are no other dogs to share us with.

We both work from home, so your dog is with at least one of us from the moment you drop off to the moment you collect — never left alone.

Two walks a day

Every dog gets a minimum of two walks daily, plus limitless hugs and cuddles from both of us. They're on holiday too.

Our two cavapoos have been regular boarders of Paw Power for 18 months now and I cannot express how pleased we are to have them stay with Phil and Fran. They give constant love and attention to both Molly and Benji, and the dogs love their holidays as much as we do! Last September, Molly had a spinal operation and three weeks later she stayed with Paw Power — Phil lifted her on and off the settee and carried her upstairs to bed every night, always happy to go above and beyond. We had a dilemma about care for our dog Maddie while we were on holiday — our usual network of family were all busy, and Maddie is precious to us. She is 16 years old and would not suit kennels. Our story

A family home, run by people who genuinely love dogs.

We're Phil and Frances Ruston. I was born in Barnsley and, after ten years in Durham, came home in 2015. Frances ran Paw Power Dog Walking around Barugh Green for years — between us, dogs have always been family.

A while ago we lost Charlotte, our Staffie-Boxer and the third member of our family, after eleven happy years together. It left us heartbroken. Soon after, a neighbour asked if we'd look after their dog while they were away. We said yes without thinking — and that little acorn became the rebirth of Paw Power.

Before you book

A few simple requirements.

These keep every dog in our care safe and well, and form part of our licence and insurance — so they're non-negotiable.

Up to date with vaccinations (original vet documents required, not photocopies).
Spayed or neutered — we're unable to take intact dogs.
Fully house-trained (we understand the odd accident happens).
Up to date with worm and flea treatment, and free of infectious conditions.

Where is Paw Power based?

We offer exclusive home dog boarding from our family home in Barugh Green, Barnsley.

How much does dog boarding cost?

Exclusive home boarding starts at £50 per night for the first dog on stays of two nights or more, with a £50 deposit to secure your dates. Single nights and Christmas peak rates differ — see our prices page.

Will my dog be left on its own?

No. We both work from home, so there is always someone with your dog, and every dog gets a minimum of two walks a day.

How many dogs do you take at once?

We only ever take one household's dog(s) at a time — up to three dogs from the same home — so your dog is always the only guest.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Paw Power is 5-star licensed by Barnsley Council, fully insured, and both of us are DBS checked.

What do I need before my dog can stay?

Your dog needs to be up to date with vaccinations (original documents), neutered or spayed, fully house-trained, and you'll need to complete our disclosure form before arrival.
